Pine Wood Derby
Teddy G.

Pack 7072 (Queen Anne’s Cub Scout troop) recently had a Pine Wood Derby. This is an annual race, where you have to build your own car and race against other kids in your pack. To enter the Pine Wood Derby, you must make a car with the materials in the box. This includes one block of wood, 4 wheels and 4 nails. Your car can be cut in any way as long as you follow the rules on the sheet you are given. Your car can weigh up to 5 ounces. If your car is too light, you can add some weight when you arrive at the race. You compete in a heat against 5 other cars and if you are in the top 3, then you move on to the final round. There is a special racecourse ramp set up. At the finish line there are sensors, and an electronic board displays your place above your car. The winner gets their name engraved on a trophy and gets to keep it for a few months. Russell Greene won this year’s race. If you want to join the Cub Scouts you can go to Bethany Presbyterian Church on Monday at 6PM. The Cub Scouts do lots of fun stuff!
